Case Study - Sole UX Product Designer (wearing lots of hats!)

Overview

Moultrie Mobile is a subsidiary software group that is primarily focused on their off-grid smart tag/motion activated cameras. They are the top producer of these devices and are in a huge YOY growth with their products. A mobile application enabled their device customers to view and manage the images/video.

My Role

Principle Product UX

Situation

The company recognized the business need for a UX designer and hired me for an open ended contract. They did not really understand what UX was specifically, but got wind that they needed it. So, part of my task was to teach them about it, while doing it. The first order of business was for me to criticize their baby so it was a very sensitive entry.

<aside> 💡 The most challenging part of being the first UX role here was building trust quickly. Believing they wanted to know the truth, giving critical feedback in a kind and helpful manner really helped. However, this was their baby and even though they invited criticism wholly, they did NOT always like what I had to say, regardless.
